  • The United States consists of 50 individual states, all of which vary in size. The smallest state is Rhode Island which is 4,002 sq km and the largest is Alaska which is 1,717,854 sq km. This really shows how the sizes of states in America differ.
  • Which American state has the longest coastline? Alaska has the longest coast line out of all of the states, which is not surprising considering that it is America’s largest state. Alaska’s coastline is 10,686 km.
  • In a number of American States including but not limited to California, Utah, Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona it is possible to see Bristlecone pine trees. These are one of the world’s oldest living things.
  • There is only one royal palace which is used in America, and this is located in Honolulu, Hawaii. Named the Iolani Palace this building has been in place for many years and is now a museum.
  • Because of the many mountain ranges in the United States climate can vary immensely from state to state. This however is highly advantageous because it means that there is something for everyone. The west coast is pretty mild because it is moderated by its proximity to the ocean; however Arizona and Nevada are good examples of hotter and drier climates.
  • Although in America English is the most commonly spoken language and also the language in which is used by the American government, there is no ‘official’ language in America, and people speak a plethora of different languages.
  • America is home to the tallest mountain in the entire world – Mauna Kea, Hawaii. This however is partly underwater and only the tallest when measured from its lowest part which is under water.
  • The deepest lake in the U.S is located in Oregon – Crater Lakes. It is 1,932 deep, making it the seventh deepest world in the entire world.
